re-seating noodle on v-brake

I just picked up my first real bike: a new Fuji Absolute 1.5. Since I needed to take off the front wheel for transporting the bike, the guy at the shop showed me how to do it. Looked very easy. But now that I'm at home trying to put it back on, I'm having trouble getting the noodle to re-seat on the v-brake. I pull it as far as it will go, and it won't quite go back far enough to drop down into the bracket. It doesn't need much more, but I'm already squeezing pretty tightly. Looking at videos online, it doesn't seem like I should have to be squeezing the daylights out of it.

I can see that it would be easy to loosen the cable to give myself more slack, but I am very hesitant to start making adjustments like that. It's a brand new bike assembled at Performance Bike, which has a good reputation; so I'm assuming an adjustment like that is not the problem. Besides, it was fine when I walked in the shop, and I watched the guy detach the brakes. So I know it should work the way it is.

Any tips on how to get that last couple of millimeters? I'm a complete rookie here, so include even the most obvious suggestions -- I won't be insulted. And there's no real rush. It's rainy outside today, so I won't be riding anyway. I'm including a picture to show what I'm talking about.

Go ahead and loosen the cable at the adjuster, all the way. Just remember to tighten it back up until they are almost touching after you tighten the wheel in place...... Stronger fingers would just squeeze it tighter...... LOL

edit: if the barrel adjuster at the handle is already screwed all the way in, it's OK to loosen the cable at the pinch bolt, for a tad extra play - then it will be easier next time. Just make sure to tighten it back up.

By the way, that's one of the reasons for the adjuster. And, you did pull on the cable end, to stretch it, right?

It's your quick Release to let the wheel be removed , say to mend a Puncture..

So do make it easier to use.

All set. Thanks again!

And, yes, Wanderer, I'm working on that hand strength.

Another pro tip: always pull the noodle straight across, not up,in the direction of the green arrow.

Lot's of folks try to pull up on the noodle when disconnecting it,but that doesn't move it clear of the notch.

Another tip - squeeze the brake handle as tight as you can, before removal, and before replacement. Of course, you have to let it go at the actual removal/replacement. Kinda "stretches the cable" for a very short time, and makes it a little easier. In a pinch, you can kind of help the stretch by hoking any part of that barrel/ferrule against that "catch" on the brakes themselves.
