I believe the 7000s are basically a pre 7.0s with a few years of production together, don't quote me on that. The 7.0 bikes come with a little more aggressive seat and handlebars. Nothing that can't be changed fairly cheap to match the 7.0s. I got a 7100 and feels aggressive enough to me with my upgrades.

got lucky, turns out this new frame is a tiny bit larger so I think this might go to my daughter who is taller, wifey can ride the black one - or who knows ... we'll see. anyway it's a ton lighter that the bike she's had since she was 17!!!!!

They should be about the same aside from the component group. During mid-2000s there was 7200 and 7200FX and at some point the FX name was shortened to 7.2 FX. The non-FX models looks like they are now called Verve.

turns out I messed up! dam! this is a 17" frame and is too big for wife or daughter. daughter thinks wife can fit on sons bike and son can ride new bike. daughter stays on her bike. need two more people to get up or get home to test daughter's hypothesis ... ugh

update - double ugh with a happy ending - new used 17.5" Trek 7.1 FX is good for son and it's newer than his Trek Multitrak 750. daughter's 15" 7.1 is just right for her and wifey. daughter stays on her 7.1 and wifey stuck with her '70s road bike until I can bike a suitable replacement.

now I can sell the 750 ...
