What hybrid?

I am looking to buy a new bike for town use and some day trips (on road). I don't want to spend a fortune (£800max but would prefer cheaper c.£500). I would ideally like some thing around or sub 12 kg, with 8 or 11 speed hub gears.

As a comparison my partner rides a Trek FX7.1 and we would be riding together.

There are many threads on the topic. Don't know prices or availability in the UK, but search this forum, and I am sure you will find many useful recommendations.

Might look at the 7.3FX?
It's a 3X9 gearing.
10 or more speeds starts getting noticeably more expensive for initial cost & the more frequently needed chain/cassette replacements.
9 speed gives you the most cassette gearing options if you decide you want different gears.

I personally love my whyte caledonian for just that purpose, but then the state of the roads i use is horrendous. Depending on where you are Whyte may be difficult to get hold of but they have a few models in your price range. Have a look.... http://www.whytebikes.com/2013/
