Cannondale 2013 Quick 4 or 2010 Quick 3???

Hi, I am planning on buying a hybrid bike for commuting a few miles per day as well as for some bike rides progressing in length as I get more into biking (nothing super long). I've been reading up and checking out bikes at some of the local bike shops and liked the 2013 Cannondale quick 4 quite a bit. It is on sale and in my size (6'2"=XL frame) for about 450+tax.
I have also been checking Craigslist in the area and came across a lightly used ("165 miles") 2010 Cannondale quick 3. The seller is asking 450 pedals not included. My question is which would be the better deal? The quick 3 from my understanding may have better components on it?

Any input would really be appreciated. Thank you.

I guess I am wondering if buying a new bike with brand new components would be better than buying one that is used (albeit lightly) with better components. the quick 3 seems like a good deal, but that is what I thought when I saw the quick 4 as well. I'm sure both would work out fine for me, just wanting some input or thoughts to help my decision.

$450 for the new Quick 4 sounds like a great deal. I'm looking at them now and the best price I've found is $585.
Today I rode a new 4 and SL1. Wow, that SL1 is really smooth. If I can find one at the REI price of $1040, I may try it. But, I'm not giving the $1,300 that this dealer wants.

I have the 2013 Quick 4 and I love it, but with some caveats. First, this bike is heavy for it's class. A bike like this should weigh about 24 lbs. stock, and this one weighs about 27 lbs, so completely stock, the bike is a little sluggish. Probably wouldn't matter much on a few mile commute, but if you're looking to progress to 20-30 mile or more rides, you may want to think about upgrading. A lot of that weight comes from the wheels/tires, which I feel are abnormally heavy for this class of bike. I upgraded mine to a Neuvation road wheelset and Michelin Lithion tires, and now the bike flies. But then, I don't know if the wheels/tires on the 2010 are any better. Component-wise, it is true that the 2010 has better components on paper, but once properly set up, the components on my 2013 have performed flawlessly, so that's kind of a wash. Of course, the 2010 is a 9 speed vs. the 8 speed of the 2013, so that's a point in it's favor. It also has carbon seat stays, which the 2013 doesn't. Honestly, keeping in mind that a bike with only 165 miles on it is virtually brand new, and assuming no hassles with the seller, I would probably go with the 2010. Just my 2 cents.

Ok thanks for the input. Yea I think I might be leaning toward the 2010. I am going to check it out today and see if it is as new as it is described to be and see how it feels. I like the paint on the 2010 a little better too which is probably subconsciously influencing my decision haha.

If i were you i would get the Jumbo frame if you choose the new one.....I am 6'1" and had a large frame QUick 5 and was gonna trade it for a XL but really it was still too small...I would strongly suggest a Jumbo frame..If you can get it in that size you will be much happier...I rode mine for 1 month and put only 100 miles on it but i traded it for a road bike...

I tried the large and XL but did not try a jumbo.. I rode around the XL and everything felt perfect to me but I am used to riding a large frame bike up until now. That being said I pulled the trigger and got the quick 3! I love it, such a smooth ride and everything is so quiet, I cant wait to start putting some miles in on it!

The 3 has nice components on it...you will find adjustments after a while...I added a 3" stem and a adjustable angle stem to mine to make the bars higher and closer to me...Tires were gonna be my next change but i got the CAAD8...Congrats. You have a nice bike.

Gjap13, congrats on your purchase. I just picked up a 2010 Quick 4 last week, and I too am loving it. I looked at the new Q4 but preferred this guy as A) the price was right and B) being a Clydesdale, I just feel better about more spokes, even if that brings a slight weight penalty. Have fun with your new bike!

Shop by fit, not price.
Don't be shy about checking/riding other brands.
Good luck.
