New Giant 2014 bikes.

Anyone check out the new offerings from Giant for 2014?
I see they did away with the "Rapid", bummer.:( I guess they did that because they have a new "Escape", the "Escape composite", looks pretty cool! It has internal cable routing.

Also, their new "Anyroad" bike looks...interesting. I guess.

That Anyroad looks very interesting... somehow seems just below par for specs though... seems like the large crank should have been 50 teeth, add a lockable suspension fork and upgrade the disk brakes to hydraulic an it would be a killer awesome bike. Truly "Any" road....

Can't tell much from the pics. Are they both 10 speed mega range cassette and a double chainwheel?

blue_cheese 09-12-13 09:14 AM

Close enough

I have a 2013 Escape 3. Kind of wish I bumped-up and got a carbon fork,
but it rides nice and is fast. It's all flat in Florida, so I'm not challenged
by the weight.
I put Conti Super Sport Plus 28's on it, and that made a big difference.
Good luck.

I ordered an Escape City on Labor Day. At first my LBS said it would be in in 5 business days, but then they said it would be an extra week. Yesterday there was a fire that knocked out their power, so who knows when my bike will be ready.

It looks almost identical to the 2013, just darker.

I'm going nuts waiting for it. I keep looking at the picture on the Giant web site.

Reminds me of the Gravity Zilla from BD.

Not really;it's got BB7's,and with trickle-down tech Tiagra's pretty decent. Agreed the big ring should be a 50. Also they should've mounted the rear caliper on the chainstay for fender/rack clearance.

Thanks for the links. I would prefer the added flexibility of a triple and closer gearing on the rear. Too many big jumps.

The rx looks nice

The 2014 "Seek 1" and "Seek 3" are looking good.

Ooh, very nice. The Seek 1 reminds me of some of Specialized's Globe line.

If and when I hit the big bingo jackpot, that Escape Composite will be mine  I suppose I will have to start playing.....:twitchy:

OK, maybe a couple of these too!

Just talked to local bike guru and he said the Anyroad is a bike to try out. I really, really like the Escape line and thought these bikeks were right up there with the Cannondales I've tried out. The Anyroad looks like science fiction and the bike dealer contact says it handles like a dream.

TomCat_Ford 10-12-13 06:32 PM

I really like the Anyroad, that is a cool looking bike. I think I'd go for the 2, though, as I prefer the gray and orange. Yes, I'd rather have the better group of the 1, but gray and orange just go so perfectly together. It's not like I couldn't upgrade it later!

Crankykentucky 10-13-13 07:49 PM

The Anyroad is great in either model. Can't wait to try these out.

These look very nice. Internal hubs? The tires look like road slicks. Giant might be on to something here.

$1,550 is really reasonable for that kind of bike. A few years ago that would be a $2,500 bike.

I just purchased the '14 Escape RX composite bike. ITs an awesome CF ride. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=346682

I paid $1,450 for mine brand new. Nice price for a complete CF bike.

What a super bike. I have a 2013 Escape RX 0 which has about 8k on it now. Once my LBS owner told me about this year's composite I thought about getting one. I like the frame but not the downgrade from 105s or the lack of rack mounts on the frame as I use my rear rack everyday. Oh and I guess you are right about Giant being proud of the composite as my RX 0 only has 35 Giants on it:). Enjoy your new wheels….

There are rear rack mounts on this frame. I am not sure why Giant put those on a carbon frame. Carbon is built more for speed and endurance. Its definately a light bike- I have not weighed it yet but its around 20 lbs. As far as the shifters on this bike- they are pretty close to the Shimano Deore rapid shifters- in fact I thought thats what they were when I first test rode the bike. Good enough for me. I bought this bike mainly for riding on flat paved rail trails.

Ah, maybe i need to rethink… X-mas is coming. All I need is to convince my bride of 43 years that I've been nice all year…. well that may be a stretch:) With one of the seat post rack mounts it may work for me. I wonder if my LBS would be willing to swap out the 105s on my RX0…. Thanks for the pic.
