FX 7.2 WSD vs Escape City W
My wife is looking for a commuter to go to the store with and around town etc and we have narrowed it down to these 2 bikes. She likes the fact that the Escape City comes with a rack and fenders already but I can get her the FX with racks for the same price at the Trek LBS. Fitting is super similar so I guess it might come down to the components. Trek is a mishmash of Shimano and Giant is SRAM Via. Both bikes would be equipped with dual side baskets on the rear for groceries so I guess the frame might also be in consideration. She has ridden both bikes and she said she can probably flip a coin to decide if nothing else is any better on either.

You always seem to get more bike for your buck, from Giant........... especially if it fits, and she likes it.... mho

I'd say break out the coin and start flipping and then start riding. They look to be very much the same from what I can see on their spec sheets.

If I were flipping that coin, I'd be hoping that it turns up on the Giant side ---- things like fenders, kickstand, and rack, go a long way to being utility friendly. I think (MHO) that the Giant has better components.
The Giant Escape City, was designed with utility in mind |
Thanks for the help everyone we ended up going with another bike altogether. Found a 2013 Marin Terra Linda WFG on closeout for cheaper than both of those. Has a carbon fork too so it's a pretty good value.
