clipless pedals on hybrids
Does anyone use clipless on hybrids? Im thinking about getting them on my Giant Escape RX carbon.

Yes, I use Shimano pdm324s, and love them. Look like normal pedals, until you want to clip in.

I've been using SPDs for several years now on all of my bikes. In fact, my hybrid came with double sided pedals (SPD on one side, flat on the other).

Why not? If you like clipless (I do), use 'em. If you don't, don't (nothing wrong with flats either).

You can kind of see them in this photo...I think people look down on hybrids, when in reality they can do just about anything!

Absolutely. My fat tire bike is the only bike I don't put them on. On my mtn bike I have reversible Shimano pedals (543?) that allow me to flip them and not use them if I'm riding on glare ice or something that may require dabbing at any moment. On a hybrid there isn't much reason to NOT use clipless spd since you can always just flip a reversible over and not bother going clipless at all. Best of both worlds.

I put a pair of half-flat/half-spd's on my hybrid this month, and it took a nice chunk off my commute time when I'm clipped in. Then I can use the flats when I'm cruising to the beach.

I'm so glad I opened this thread! I haven't purchased my bike yet, however this was one of the things I have been contemplating. I don't know why I didn't see the benefit of the double sided pedals till I opened this thread. Thanks guys

Ah, the Pre Worrier .. type.. see those a lot, haven't even bought the bike
Do it if you want .. knock your self out..
I have clipless pedals and shoes, just dont ride so far as to need them of Late..
regular shoes , and platform pedals are fine for me .. for now..
dont forget: unclip First, Then, Stop. not the reverse

Ask yourself what you think the clipless pedals will do for you that platform pedals won't do.

I originally was going to paint them, add waterbottle holders, and reflector sets, but realized that the worse they look the less likely someone will steal them.

I don't like the non-descriptive term "clipless" ... but "click pedals", as we call them when literally translated, are the way to go for any serious riding.
I use A530's on my hybrid to be able to use them with normal shoes when touring with my wife and kids and use the click-side for more sportive riding.
On my TT bike and tri/road bike I use M540's which are basic and relatively cheap but very solid dual sided SPD mountainbike pedals.
The advantage of using SPD over specific road pedals is that you can still almost walk in a normal fashion on SPD-shoes while walking with actual road shoes is much less comfortable.
The difference in performance is, according to me and basic physics, nonexistant.

I use Shimano Click R clipless pedals on my Kona Splice hybrid bike. The setup works great, love it.

I use Shimano spd m424 on all my bikes - including Specialized Crosstrail hybrid. One shoe fits them all lol I love it...especially in wet weather. Prepare to learn the hard way how to unclip yourself quick. You will be ok after few "slow falls" ;-)
