Gurus PLEASE Critique the following ad ASAP and tell me what you would pay!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

What would you be willing to pay for this bike and the extras assuming the bike is in good condition?

"I Purchased The Trek 7.7 fx last yr for $2,000 at American Cycle & Fitness. I rode the bike 3 times then I came across an Electra Ratfink that I customed out with lights & sounds. I really like the Carbon Fiber 7.7 fx too but I never rode it, Its 60cm, it has an upgraded seat, lights, swivel round mirror, led bell, wireless speed sensor & mileage node 1.1 kryptonite lock, I added clip on pedals (which I didnt like) so I have some $200 shoes for it also I'll sell seperate if intrested size 12, I added a mirror, electric horn, silicone hand grips, tool bag, carbon fiber water bottle holder, adjustable stem, air ride suspension in seat pole, aluminum rack on the rear...etc. Everything is Premium extras top of the line extras."

Sadly I don't believe the extras you bought are useful for a bargaining tool. Possibly the life- time warranty doesn't carry over either. My guess would be half what you paid initially. Cut your losses.

A bike that was ridden 3 times should be in all but new condition except dirt on tires and a bit of brake scuffing. A description of good condition seems to indicate wear and damage. You need to describe condition in more detail. Remember the bike is one year old when pricing.

This is an ad for a bike I am thinking of purchasing, not that I want to sell.

Reads like an unrealistic seller whose bike will remain unsold.

Normal for shop to take off $20 or so from MSRP, but they have to pay the distributor for the bike,
and the labor and overhead to run the shop, come out of the slim Margin.

When you buy the bike, accessories are discounted at point of purchase . usually 10%

you can look up all the added parts cost to gain your used bike haggling data ,

or just offer cost of the bike, and let them take off the widgets they bought as extras if they think they're so great.

you could just go buy the same bike, New, your name is on the lifetime frame warrantee , then..

I'm guessing this is San Francisco ..
everything costs more there because the Tech Companies pay their people a lot ..
and that raises the cost of living for everyone else..

" I rode the bike 3 times" .... First one was from NYC to LA. Second one San Diego - Mexico City. Thrid one from Panama to Uruguay.
That may explain all these useful extras...

Hmm, the seller listed the size as 60 cm, but isn't the FX line measured in the MTB standard of inches??

Also, used market pricing varies depending on locale- a "fair price" in one area may well be too high or too low elsewhere. I found the relevant CL ad- 2013 Carbon Fiber Trek 7.7 fx

It does look like a '13 7.7FX; that would explain the sizing (60cms) -- the 7.7 is just a 3-series Madone frame with flat bars.
$1650? Nope. Two reasons: that's 'nos' lbs pricing, and the 'extras' wouldn't be worth it to me.
If it were me, I might consider an offer of, say, $11-1200 for the bike itself with the junk stripped off if -- and only if -- I could have an independent bike shop verify a) no apparent structural damage to frame/fork and b) wear on tires/drivetrain consistent with 'ridden three times'.

That is what I think, but this listing seems very fishy to me. Pictures are from Hong Kong, price way too high, and I don't understand what he meant by selling carbon trek, riding it 3 times, but never rode it... Sounds like scam to me...
And I'm really afresh to scams...my grandfather just sent $20000 this morning to some "doctor" from other side of the globe because "I" called crying that "I" need money for surgery.... I will get this f@#$er and rip his legs from his butt.

Totally agree re. fishiness of this listing, Lopek. Agree also re. scams ... they are everywhere. One can't be too vigilant. Cons taking advantage of the vulnerability of the elderly are particularly despicable. Certainly have enough of that kind of thing around here.

That's exactly what I thought when I read about the "Premium extras top of the line extras". The gadgets he has bolted on aren't universally desirable, no matter how expensive they were. That rack for example would be useless for me, as I need more capacity. Have the "extras" removed before you buy - and make sure there are no marks afterwards. Unless of course you're certain they'd serve your purposes as well.

The entire purpose of these forums is to get different perspectives on different issues. There have been a few people to respond that I AM SURE these few posts don't represent every view out there.

I hope you know understand the purpose of this post and all others and won't bother adding words that don't add value in the future like you did in this case.

For used, a year or two old, I'd pay about 60% MSRP. For anything carbon, make sure you check the bike out well for cracks. Warranties are not usually transferrable.

I'll add whatever "words" I please so long as those words don't violate BF guidelines.

My "perspective" is this: I (and others) have responded substantively to your original question above. I've re-read those posts (including themishmosh's view, very well and concisely expressed, above), and it is my view that those posts exhaust the possible 'perspectives' one might have on that original question. The one possible exception might be an opinion that the seller is asking a fair price/you should contact the seller immediately and offer his asking price. That certainly wouldn't be my opinion, but I suppose if this thread stays alive long enough someone might come along and give it voice.

Absent that, I don't know what else there is to say.

there is the risk of just getting a no name carbon frame , the buying thru a NAME IMPORTER will cost more ,

but then they are there after the sale ..

import your self and take your lumps of experience if its not all you dream it to be.

That's great,

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I didn't post this thread to satisfy YOUR view and the possible perspectives that YOU feel are sufficient. I posted this post to satisfy MY needs, not yours.

Therefore I will keep the thread rolling until I FEEL I have all the perspectives I need, and therefore YOUR OPINION regarding whether you think I have enough responses is NOT RELEVANT TO ME.
