Eyeballing a used Jamis Coda Comp 2012

Howdy folks,

After a couple years of bikesharing around DC, I am finally looking to get my own bike for some commuting and recreational riding. I tried out a couple of bikes including the Jamis Coda Sport, the Trek 7.2 FX, and the Giant Escape 2. I most enjoyed the Jamis Coda Sport, the ride was a bit more supple on account of the steel frame; and if there was any additional weight I am too green to notice. Anyhow, I was all ready to pull the trigger when my LBS told me that they were sold out of the Coda Sport in my frame size (23") and didn't know when they would be able to get more in stock.

Anyhow, I took a peek online and happened to find someone advertizing a 23" 2012 Coda Comp for $399 (MSRP in 2012 was $775); this is the upgraded version of the Coda Sport (MSRP $540), so it seems like this could work out for me assuming the bike rides well. I am going to go for a test ride on Thursday evening and was looking for some advice on the following:

1. Is there anything in particular I should pay attention to when I do my test ride?
2. Is the asking price of $399 reasonable, or a bit rich?

Here is a full spec sheet of the 2012 Coda Comp from the Jamis website:

And here are some pictures of the bike in question:

Thanks a bunch for any advice you have,

John

If it is in good working order, I'd offer $325 cash money.

Assuming that follows the hybrid line of sizing, (I'm not looking, just thinking Jamis Coda Sport) then I hope you're fairly tall cuz that 23" frame is gonna be a doozy for anybody under about 6'4".

If the bikes in good shape I think it's a fair price. But if he's asking $399 you can probably get it for $350-375. The comp is a nice upgrade from the sport; carbon fiber fork, and higher end drive-train components.

I am indeed 6'4", were I shorter my LBS would have me covered no problem. Thanks for the insights thus far fellas.

Let us know what the outcome is. I love my Jamis.
