AAARRGGG!!!! Brought home my Escape 2

Yesterday and I've had a chance to put 1 mile on it. It's been cold, windy and rainy otherwise. Why does that always happen when you get a new toy?

But other than that, I REALLY like the bike especially the trekking bar on it. I saw pic of them on here and decided to try them. Mother of god why aren't they standard on most bikes?

The bikeshop had NO idea how to put them on though. They had them on backwards when I went to pick it up and thought I was crazy when I told them how they were supposed to go.

I bought an Escape 1 and brought it home March 6th. I couldn't wait and took it straight to the trail only to find 6 inches of ice on the trail. I decided to just run around the small town a little bit. I made it 1 block. It was 22 out. I froze everything in my body as I don't have cold weather gear, just the jacket I wear when going out which is fine walking but not at all appropriate riding any speed on a bike.

I had to wait 2 weeks I think before I could ride. Then waited another 3 weeks before I rode again. Haven't ridden lately or about 9 or 10 days because of weather. Hopefully I can ride this weekend.

I finally got a decent ride in today. Around 12 miles(I've been off a bike for 5? years now, so a good start) Wow I like it so much better than the previous mountain bike I had. I would have to recommend it to anyone looking for a road based hybrid. Although I should have ordered the city model instead of the plain 2. I spent as much on upgrades and could have had fenders as well for the same price.

I had it in the picture thread. But here we go! I need a real trunk bag, but I don't want to spend the crazy money they want for one.

Nice! How did you mount the 2nd bottle cage? My Escape 1 doesn't have the mount holes on the downtube for a cage. Just zip tied/hose clamps or do you have the screw mount (don't know what that is called)?

I started to put mine on with hose clamps (weren't big enough) and I didn't think there was enough room to be able to pull the bottle in and out.

I like the black with charcoal "Giant" label. I like it better than my charcoal with white "Giant" label. Wish the "Giant" on mine was black instead of white.

I like that setup. Which trekking bar did you get? I'm looking to add one to a Giant FCR 3.

I got the Topeak MTX bag and really like it. I carry a lot of stuff being a type 1 diabetic so it works out nice for me. Latest pic of my Escape 2 from yesterday. Im still lovin this bike!

Quick rely before work. The second cage is bolted on. There are braze ons on both places. Try big zipties?

The trekking bar, I'm not sure. I showed the lbs what i wanted at nashbar and they ordered it someplace else for the same price.

More later!

There is no mistaking the brand. I counted 6 logos per side. And I'm glad ot is fairly subdued.

My guess is it's because of frame size. My last year Escape RX 0 in Large had two mounts while my wife's small had only the one. The funny thing is we bought new bikes this year Escape RX Composites and both the Large and Small have two sets of mounts. Go figure

Can you show where you put your brake levers and shifters on your trekking bars?

I hope this is what you are looking for. The exact positions are subject to change. Most likely more towards the frame to get more hand space. When they wrapped they had them way too far outboard. I will fix that before I take it in for the 200 mile adjustment.

Cool, thanks. Now I have a better idea of how you'd use them. (As a side comment, a white background could have shown better.)
