I really don't have time for 2 bikes so they are for sale and decided to just get one nice bike instead. No more road bikes for me. The riding position is just not my thing. After 1 hr to 1.5 hr I get sick of being stretched out and I really did have an open mind hearing others say its more comfortable for long rides but I felt the opposite. And yes the bike was my size and I tried several different stems.
So today picked up a 14 Sirrus Expert Disc.

I was decided this or the 14 Trek 7.7 but did not really like the rather monotone colors on the 7.7 and the riding position felt better on the Sirrus. On the 7.7 I was sitting in the bike while on the Sirrus I was on top of the bike which felt more aggressive to me and I wanted that. I did want to like the Giant Escape RX composite but in no way did it fit me, too long of a top tube in my size.

Would like to hear how well it rides and what kind of speed increases/time savings you are achieving with this bike over your previous bikes.

Sweet! Way out of my price range with kids starting college and all, but I can't wait to hear a ride report. Having said that, I think it's against the laws of man to have wheel reflectors on a carbon bike...

I got it late at night, so only have a mile or 2 on it. The thing that I look for 1st hand is power transfer. If I am going to pay over 2k for a bike it better be stiff and fast. You can pretty much tell right off the bat it has the speed and power transfer for hills and sprints. If you have a smile on your face and that must have feel buy it, cause the dealer told me some makers are done making some 14 models and if you want that color scheme and style get it now. I don't think the guy is bluffing. The handling is just how I prefer it, so nimble due to that sitting high feel and helped by that tallish 6.49 inch head tube length. The hydraulic discs brakes have this sandy rubbing sound, maybe its just breaking in? Not too worried about that
In terms of comfort compared to my old Trek 7.5 FX its surprising close and pretty much close to even, the frame on the 7.5 FX is outstanding for absorbing road harshness but the Sirrus feels much faster.
I may keep my CAAD8 as a errands bike, there is no way I am going to get scratches on this bike racks at stores, libraries.

That now makes 2 threads......1 here & 1 in the mechanics forum where somebody ditched road bikes for hybrid. (Actually, they want to convert a road-bike to a hybrid which is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY HERESY of the HIGHEST ORDER!!!!!



But in all seriousness, that bike is SICK!!! Love the whole look & layout!! You are much like me, in that I just couldn't get comfy on a Giant! I would have also suggested the Cannondale Quick Carbon 2 or 1, but I can't knock that Sirrus. And I found the Sirrus very much like the Quick in terms of fit so I'm sure I'd love either just as much.

Was out of town this weekend and went to look at bikes for fun. Ran into a leftover new 2012 Spec Allez Comp Apex and gave it a shot. Its fits better than my old CAAD8 and rides smoother and I bought it. I eat my words, this one just might work out as far as road bikes go. I tried the Giant TCR out also and something just did not feel completely right, my shoulders were crunched in and neck felt odd.
Something about Cannondale road bikes don't fit me, I sat on the Synapse and was too stretched out and low and that's odd considering its there endurance model roadbike. On my sold CAAD I tried 4 stems and never felt " dialed" in per say.
Maybe I am just a Specialized guy and have a body type for that maker. Is there such a thing as one maker fitting someone perfect? Makes you wonder.

I'd say there's probably something to the maker/fit part of how we feel on a brand of bike. They probably have a standard by which they feel the bike is "good" and stick to it often.

For me, all the Giant bikes I try stretch me out too far but that is simply because of their notoriously long top tubes. Some folks probably love it. I just don't.

For what I remember when I was shopping hybrids, the entire Cannondale Quick line and Specialized Sirrus line were very similar in fit/feel to me. Other brands didn't feel the same but those 2 did.

This new road bike I have is semi aggressive in riding position and has the same geometry as the Tarmac which I would LOVE to try . I hear the 2015 Tarmac is completely redesigned. I felt more comfortable on the racy Allez than on the Roubaix for some reason. I will say I do know my limitations on road bikes and how long I can ride them and will just use this as a toy around the neighborhood and not riding long rides.

Thanks, just took a slight hill test on both bikes and as expected the Sirrus with the highly regarded SL4 carbon frames whops the Allez alloy in the stiffness and pedal to power feel. Of course it feels that way I paid twice for it vs the Allez.
I did need a 2nd beater/errands bike, there is completely ZERO chance of me taking the Sirrus and locking it up and getting banged up by other bikes plus nasty marks from locks.

I made the same decision as you when I got my Sirrus Comp Carbon. I use it for my commute and it lives in my office and in my house at both ends of the ride. I purposely kept my old commuter converted Rock Hopper for running errands and crashing around on because I live in a college town and work on campus where bike theft is rampant so there is no way I'd risk locking the carbon bike up somewhere. It's a bit limiting to take that approach but after having my fat bike stolen from campus the very first day I rode it there I'm not taking that chance again.

I've really been impressed with the stiffness of the SL4 frame too and love the overall feel and handling of the bike. I've taken a couple of 60 mile rides on it and have had no problems with aches or pains from the riding or hand position. At my age (60) my body was starting to grouse a bit after riding my old Roubaix for any distance on the drops. I'm definitely a flat bar convert!

That is one sweet bike bro! I have the Sirrus Comp and really like it as well. Just curious, what do you think about the seat? I do not like the stock seat at all and I am in the process right now of finding a seat that I like. Some people brag about how great the seat is but it literally kills me after only a few miles.

The stock seat on the Sirrus is pretty bad. It was too wide for me and getting on and off was uncomfortable and its on ebay right now.
I use a Cannondale Synapse Saddle on my Sirrus now. Now sure whether the white is a keeper on not. Just wanted to try something different looking than black.

I lucked out with a 2011 Sirrus Sport (yellow) on ebay in Jan. I'd like to have the carbon fiber front fork (can't afford carbon frame). Still playing with tires sizes—about to put 25s on it.
I also ride an '05 Allez Sport (love it) and awaiting delivery of a low mileage (<100 mi) 2011 Roubaix SL3 Expert (I don't need money, I have plastic). I think I have the full range of road biking covered.
Somedays you feel like comfort, somedays speed racer (and most days I'm just lazy). Enjoy that beautiful machine (I know you will).
And I'm with you on Specialized fit. Some people wear Levis, some wear Wrangler.
What a wonderful way to spend retirement.

I bought the Specialized Milano Gel and it was only 50 dollars but it's pretty good I think so far. I rode 15 miles on it this morning without bike shorts and it didn't feel too bad, any further than that though I would probably need padded shorts. I'm still considering trying one of their road bike saddles maybe. I actually think the white looks good on your bike, I wouldn't worry about the looks at all if I were you. The Sirrus is a sweet bike, I am loving mine more and more all the time. They are super quick and fast!

I paid 35 bucks for that white saddle. And I can't tell it apart from these saddles that cost 100 bucks.
Took my 1st sorta long ride on the Allez roadbike. I am still 1.5 hours max on one of these things even with a 17 degrees rise stem, than the necks starts feeling uncomfortable.

I rented a 14 Specialized Tarmac today, it climbs hills EXCELLENT, without question worthy of the price tag if you encounter hills everyday. Its stiff though, I could certainly feel the stiffness on the route I take all the time vs my bikes.
Pedal to power is what that bike is all about.

Sweet bike! Carbon hybrids are a good choice for those who do not want to get into the road bike life style - or trying to get away from it.

I just picked up mine the other day, first thing I did after riding it out of the shop....turned around and bought new Mavic wheels and tires. Then swapped the stem, handlebars, and seat post with Thomson, much lighter and quicker. I went with a Brooks C17 saddle.
