I will end up changing the bike this weekend, I just need to decide whether to up or downgrade. ( I actually preferred the Shift 1 to this one). I do need an adjustable stem but I assume that is doable for not a lot of money.
What is the difference?

I scored some of the last nice 8 - speed Shimano compatible gripshifts in 2001. The 7-sp MRX prior to 2013 were pretty nice I thought. New MRX sucks though.

Haven't really used the Sram compatible gripshifts much

The size and width of the tires, basically. The verve has 700c tires and thinner. But really my point is that, at least to me, the bicycles feel different, even between different versions of the same model. Different forks, even different stems make the ride very different.

I'm off to change my bike. They told me they would take the money I spent on the extended warranty towards the new bike. I've already had problems in that store with different clerks giving me different prices. IF they give me a good price for the bike, then I'll upgrade. Otherwise I'll go down to the shift 1 and use the rest of the money towards an adjustable stem. Wish me luck.

After riding it for 30 minutes my forearms arms felt funny, maybe it's from the change of position. My husband changed the stem (so grateful I bought it with an adjustable stem) and brought the handlebar closer, it helped a lot. Thanks for all the support and help.

You look quite happy in that pic and you ended up with what looks like a much better bike.

You have the improved shifters, better crank, better grips, better suspension fork, better wheels, better tyres, better brake levers.

Also I think all black is a classic looking colour, so in my book, that is also a better choice than what was on offer in the Shift 2.

Thank you. You are right, there are many other upgrades besides what the trek website states. Even the stem is different (I assume that it's better). The suspension fork is also lighter, not only lockable. I am much happier with this bike. I wasn't planning on spending this much but once my husband had payed for the non-refundable extended warranty, I think it was a no brainer. By the way, in two months we'll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. It's my gift!

Excellent,

I am glad it all worked out.

Lesson learned is you must do your own research and not just trust what a salesperson tells you.

Thank you. And another lesson will be not to buy a bike you haven't tried! It's amazing how different they are. The $100 difference felt steep but it was worth it.

You are paying hard earned money, either they will appreciate that or they won't.
