If it benefits a particular rider due to terrain, that's clearly not something that I'm in a position to comment on. It's a royal p.i.t.a. if you climb hills and don't have a lock-out feature on the fork.

There are good suspension forks, and there are cheap ones. I find that in most entry level bikes, the suspension forks are overly cheap and gimmicky. That isn't the case in a more expensive set up. I haven't personally taken a ride on the Adventure, so take my input with a grain of salt. I find that, generally speaking, two bikes that are the same pricepoint but one has a suspension fork, the rigid fork is a better place to spend the money.

To make it a car analogy, I wouldn't suggest buying an intro level Kia that has a great stereo system, leather seats, and a bunch of add-ons, if it's still priced as entry level and they are cutting costs in other area that are more important to the actual ride.
I think that "most" hybrids with suspension forks have the more rider sitting upright geometry and a bigger seat and most hybrids with the rigid forks are more sporty and they have the flat bars and you have to lean over a little bit when you ride them correct? Now, if you put the same exact tires on both bikes I honestly can't answer if the rigid fork would ride as good as the suspension fork bike or not. I was kinda comparing it to my Sirrus Comp that has 28c tires and it does in fact have a pretty harsh ride compared to my Cypress DX, but it's not really a fair comparison because of the tires.

I think more than anything it boils down to what riding position that you like, do you wanna sit upright or do you wanna ride bent over? I say for most older people, especially people just getting back into biking that the upright riding position and more comfortable seat is going to be the way to go for them. Even if a flat bar performance hybrid has as good of a ride as my DX does, I still love my DX for the comfort and don't regret buying it and can't recommend it enough. It never hurts to have two bikes anyway right?

Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for your input. I bought my bike today, the Cannondale Quick 4! I was swayed by the comfort of the Adventure, but I think the Quick is more what I need. Your comments helped. I put the seat on from my old Huffy, so it does look a little odd, but it feels a lot better. The bike overall is the best fit of all the sporty hybrids I tried. I kept the original Cannondale seat, so maybe I will progress to that at some point. Thank you for all of your comments. I can't wait to go on my first big ride! (Raining today, so hopefully tomorrow.)
