Why is a Cinelli Super Corsa frame and fork so expensive? After ... over six decades(?) of making it, you would think the tooling was paid for ...

Because it's nice steel, lugged, and prolly hand made.

'Tooling'? Do you know how frames are made? They're not stamped out of sheet metal or CNC milled.

Would be interesting to see how much of the 15 Giant CoMax1 is hand made. Its the best bargain since that 1750 is MSRP, my dealer will probably sell you one for 1650 or 1700.

Displacement has nothing to do with it being "high end" or not. A Busa isn't any more high end than a GSXR 600, it's just has a much larger engine. As far as build quality goes, they're probably right on par with each other. Same goes with Ducati. A Ducati Monster 696 is just as "high end" as the 1200cc version. The OP's motorcycle is more of a budget friendly motorcycle, so I do agree that it's not fair to compare price tags.

That was not a dig at the OP's motorcycle by any means though. Just about any motorcycle will put a big grin on my face.

Bigger bikes tend to get the newer tech, hence 'higher-end'. The 'Busa uses a ram-air system to get top speed up close to the two-ton mark, doubt any of the 600's have as much gadgetry. Bigger bikes are also more expensive. Also,I assumed when I said Ducati that people would think of their superbikes and not their air-cooled street line.

They've been using ram air systems on sportbikes for over a decade. My old 04 R6 had a ram air system. And to be honest, I wouldn't consider a Busa to be a high end motorcycle. When I think of high end motorcycles, I think Ducati, Aprilla, BMW, etc... I consider a Ducati 899 Panigale to be just as high end as a 1299 Panigale even though obviously the 1299 is more expensive. It's a bigger, more powerful motorcycle after all.

And I do agree with the basic premise of your argument that the OP's motorcycle isn't what I consider high end and it's not fair to compare it's price tag to a high end hybrid. I just don't agree that displacement has anything to do with it. A Ninja ZX 6R is probably twice as expensive as the OP's Ninja 650, and it has a smaller engine.

It's all about terminology. It's cool to spend high bucks on a hybrid..

If the same bike was termed a lowbrid would you spend the same?
