Deore front derailleur shift lever converter not set by factory nor lbs
Just picked up a new Specialized Crosstrail Elite Disc hybrid on Tuesday 10/21 , primary reason for choosing this model was the two chainring setup. I live in mostly flat central Florida and didn't see the need for 27-30 gear combinations. While at the LBS to pick up the bike I notice the front derailleur and chain were making contact w/grinding sound. I explained that concern and the bike technician dutifully succeeded in adjusting it correctly.
Once at home I used a flash light to note down the tiny model numbers on the three drive gear mechanism, FD,RD and SL's, then found pdf's on Shimano support pages that corresponded to my bike's components. While doing the search I came across an interesting switch on the front derailleur shift lever, Deore SL M610, it has two markings/settings: 3X and 2X. Well since the bike only has two chainrings and the setting is at 3X I became intrigued why the factory and lbs didn't set it to 2X. Oh yea I find this to be a quality control oversight by assemblers at factory in China. The QA/QC check on this bikes setup wasn't confirmed visually nor mechanically for this item/setting.
So my question is, can someone confirm that the only reason for that switch is to set the red display indicator for the correct chainring number. I'll be following the factory instruction and changing it to 2X this weekend before doing my first long ride. TIA

If the limit screws on the derailleur are set up properly,I wouldn't worry about it. My Buzz came with a front double and a triple shifter, but it's set up properly and I've never had an issue.
