shopping for nice long lasting daily ride hybrid

Looking to upgrade on my previous bike 2010 trek fx 7.1. Riding 6 miles to town and back on daily basis on bike path with occasional unavoidable bumps. Thinking I'm sticking with fx line 7.4 or 7.5 as I really loved my first bike but also considering giant escape 1 and open to suggestions. Any one that can help me decide or weigh the good or bad about these bikes will be greatly appreciated. Thanks alllot.

Nice...sounds like you've been upgraded. I was somewhat considering trek crossrip but never even been on a road bike before. I would imagine you sacrifice handling for efficient speed positioning.. I would prefer being able to turn 90 degrees on a dime .

Telling us what it is that you don't like about the 7.1 will make this easier to answer.

Fuji and Giant will be similar good value for the money.... Ask the dealer about wider tires; but I would hazard a guess that they will fit 32 or 35s.

I have a 2014 Absolute 1.5, which as far as I can tell has the same specs as the 2015. When I asked Fuji directly, I was told that the Vera Corsa rims can take up to a 32mm tire.

Likely that the rims will take an even wider tire. The limiting factor will probably be frame/fork clearance.

Nice! do u like the fuji 1.5? Have u rode trek fx? How does it compare? My favorite bike shop in town has fuji and I'd really like to support them instead of going right back to the trek monster store. But I loved the feel of my old fx so it would be a safer buy.

I've only had it since Christmas, so I haven't had a lot of good riding days here in PA so far. But I did test ride the 7.2 FX while shopping for bikes. It didn't stand out to me one way or the other -- not bad but not great. The two I really liked were the Giant Escape 2 and the Fuji Absolute 2.1. Both of those felt very nice to me. I didn't test ride the 1.5 then because it was out of my price range. The only reason I ended up with it is because Performance Bike had it for a steal on Cyber Monday. So far I do like it. But honestly I'm so new at this (first bike since I was a kid) I'm not sure my opinion should count for much.
