purpose of these braze-ons?

It's way too cold to ride my new bike, so I'm contenting myself trying to learn more about it.

What would these braze-ons on the chainstay be used for? Only the non-gear side has them. The only thing I can think of is a kickstand, but the kickstands I've seen don't seem to attach like that.

There are kickstands that mount to the chainstays. Given the location of your rear brake caliper,I'm guessing that's what that is.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought about the brakes interfering with a more centrally-placed kickstand. Thanks.

I have the same thing on my 2014 Giant Escape RX Composite... Have no idea what it is for.

It's a kickstand mount. Looks weird when folded, and it's not as stable as the old school one mounted under seat tube. I removed mine soon after my bike fell. It may work great on much smaller frames. My bike is XL, and is always loaded with large triangle frame bag. Maybe that was a reason for this type of stand to be so unstable.

Well bugger me. I've never seen that. Before I opened the thread, I thought it was going to be one of those handy thingies steel bikes had on the seat stay (drive side) to hold your chain when the back wheel is off. Why on God's Earth did manufacturers stop including them on frames. (I know some still do)

Thanks, Colonel. Unfortunately, Rose doesn't operate in the USA. Shipping costs and VAT keep it from being feasible for me. But after a little searching, I found the general term for that type of mount is KSA 40 mount.

I see you're in Michigan. Where did you buy it -- locally or online? I can't find a US company which sells them.

I have ordered stuff from Rose before. You don't have to pay VAT if it is shipped to the US, and shipping is pretty reasonable if you spread it over a larger order. Strong dollar makes it a good time to buy things priced in Euros.

Most bike stores should have them...I bought 2 of them at my local Specialized dealer for $20 or so...If you in my area - stop by and I will give you one for free.

OK. I thought maybe they were an odd item.

Yeah, your story doesn't give me a lot of confidence in this thing.
I don't even know whether I'll end up wanting a kickstand. At home I just hang the bike from the garage ceiling. It would be more for rail trails and other longer rides where I might take breaks.

There is always a tree, post, bench or a road sign for that You can also flip it wheels up and the bike is a stand lol
