2014 SIRRUS COMP $699 - good deal?

Specialized Sirrus Comp - Bike Barn - Houston, Texas:

This is the bike I have been looking at. My LBS just put it on sale, discounted from $1099 to $699. They have a left over stock of the 2014 models they need to clear out.

I gave it a long test ride 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed the feel/ride of it. It was to the point I almost pulled the trigger and bought it. The salesman, who I have delt with for the past year or so, was courteous enough to tell me to wait on buying, due to the fact this model was going on sale in 2 weeks at a great price. Sure enough.

A. Is this a good deal?
B. Any foreseeable upgrades I should do right off that bat? Reason being, just about every part/accessory will be on sale. My LBS (Bike Barn) is gearing up for the Texas MS150.

thanks,
drew

$400 off retail for a Specialized? Sounds like a good deal to me.

As for upgrades, nothing jumps out. looks like a sweet ride. After you own it and ride it for a couple of thousand miles, you will know what it is you like and what you want to swap out. Many people swap out the stock saddle for something better, but that is a matter of personal comfort. Ride the bike and see how the stock saddle feels before changing it out.

That said, plenty of things to spend money on now. Seatpack, tire levers, spare tubes, patch kit, multi tool, CO2 cartidges and/or frame pump, floor pump, helmet, lock, shorts, jersey, gloves, windbreaker, eye protection, clipless pedals, and cycling shoes.

Wait till 2016....They may have even lower price. It sucks to overpay like that and save only $400.

+1

OP, that's a very good price on a very good bike -- assuming the dealer has stock in your size. That would be my only caution: it's not a good deal if the bike is too small/large for you.

Other than that, what MRT2 says above. I'd add one thing: if you buy, ask the dealer to have the wheels gone over by a tech -- to check/adjust spoke tension/trueness. Even if you pay a small fee for this, it's worth it; the stock wheels on Specialized at this price point are not bad at all, but they are mass-produced/machine-made, so a little attention at point-of-purchase is well worth it.

Thanks for all the tips. They have my size, fits great/test rode great. For sure I'll have a tech go over it with a fine tooth comb. I purchased my road bike from this shop and was very satisfied with there services.

Good news, I bought the bike on Sunday. Love it! I swapped the pedals for some dual platforms and added a Garmin 500 computer. I'm ready to log some miles. Of coarse, here in Texas, the weather forecast is for freezing rain the next couple of days, go figure.

Had a break in the weather here in Texas. Finally got some miles on my new ride. Before I headed out, I added 2 water bottle cages, a tail light, a seat pack with tools, co2, and a spare tube.

Awoke today to another cold front, call me weak....I'd rather not ride in 38 degree weather with a wind chill of 25.

Texas spring/summer will get here soon enough, then it we'll really log some miles.

You will love that bike! It's like riding nothing!

And, I'd be happy with 38 degrees, and no snow or ice, or salt!

My brother used to live in Houston, and he would call in January to brag about being in the pool!

Wait til September, I'll be crying about 98% humidity, LOL. Today it's like being a kid on Christmas Day and parents not letting you go outside to play with your new toys.

Typical Houston weather: 80's yesterday wearing shorts and flip flops, today 37, wind chill 23......sleeves, scarf, beenie a must.

I too think you got a great deal on a very good bike. The Sirrus Comp is, I think, a sweet-spot in the Sirrus line-up -- either aluminum or carbon. Mine is a heavily-used 2010 (it's my main bike); wouldn't change it unless I wanted a different kind (as opposed to just different/new) of bike.
