Hello from Bogotá, Colombia
Hi.
I've been using my bicycle mainly for transportation since 1993. Bogota's traffic is completely chaotic and no matter which is your destination, you'll probably be there a lot faster using a bicycle.
I've commuted about 71.000km (that's 44.117mi) during this years, only going to college and then to work. I'm tracking them here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing, these last 7 years are more accurate thanks to Sports Tracker app. I use it every single day.
Bicycle is a very important part of my life, it's almost part of me. I'm lucky enough to have found someone who share this feeling and she commutes daily on her bicycle too, we even have a tandem to make it easier and funnier to go out together.
Bogota has over 300km of bike paths and every day you see more people using them as traffic is getting worst every day. Because of my experience dealing with traffic and bicycles, a friend convinced me to put it on writing. Not even close to be finished, but will be someday. It'll help people to figure out how to use a bicycle on a daily basis according to their own needs and change their lives, as I did 21 years ago.
I follow all major bicycle races, mainly following fellow colombian riders since those Lucho Herrera's days in Tour de France back in 1985. Hopefully this year Nairo Quintana will finally win the Tour de France to complete all colombian fans dreams.
My Bicycle
Its name is "María Casquitos", which is an inside joke difficult to explain to you guys. Sorry. I build it to fit my needs (I'm 5'5") with a 15" aluminum generic frame, rigid fork and a Shimano Alivio 8 speed 2007 groupset. 3 years ago I upgraded chainring to 48TT and it really made a difference, definitely my next groupset will be a racing one instead of mountain. Rack is Blackburn, fenders are ugly and cheap, locks are kryptonite. 7 years and 21.000km with me.
Our Tandem
Frame was built by a local brand named "Bernalli". It was customized to my height so it's 16", and we choose that color to fit our wedding's colors. Yes, we're going from church to reception site on our tandem, and yes, many guests will join us in this 7km ride. Groupset is Shimano Alivio 2014 and we love it, chainrings are 48TT as well. Racks are blackburn too, and basket is an customization from a local craft handed one.
I've been around for many years on this forum and it surprised me I wasn't a member. So here I am, feel free to contact me if you need anything from me.
