New Enthusiast, looking to restore and ride.
Hello,
My name is josh as I recently purchased a "Silk KATAKURA" for a good price and with some research found these bikes to have a large fan base and would like to learn more about it as I fix it up and start to ride it.
As far as I can tell, most of the parts are original, and in alright condition, and while I have several numbers of the bike and having trouble finding out what the bike actually is.
I believe it's a 70-75 Silk KATAKURA that was originally a plum color that was re-painted blue and then badged and used as a police cycle. (Still have decal from when it was issued equipment) for Corvallis Oregon and the decal expired in 1975. from what I can tell so far all the controls and deraileurs are SUNTOUR and I found a local cycle shop that says they can still get a fair amount of the older parts if I wish to recondition it with properly.
All in all I love the bike and its history and I look forward to meeting others on here and learning about the bike and most importantly, use it for what it was built, to Ride.
Thanks.
