My Bike Is My Steed
Since my parents bought me my balloon-tired, one-speed Schwinn in 1956, my bicycle has been my means of getting away from the rat race. We upgraded to three-speeds in the early sixties and I bought my first road bike, a Raleigh Grand Prix, in 1971 when I moved to Davis, CA. I road that bike to and from work for almost fifteen years then put it up on blocks to use as a "spinner". When I retired seven years ago, I wasn't healthy and decided to buy a Raleigh Cruiser, which I proceeded to fall off of every time I back-peddled while reaching for the ?brakes? on the handle-bars. I just gave that bike to my cousin's girlfriend. Good for her and good-riddance for me.
The guy who owns the bike shop was really surprised when I bought that cruiser and said, "We'll have you on another road bike yet!" Now I'm healthy, after spinning on my blocked Raleigh and ready to get back on the road with my trusty steed
I have always wanted a Bianchi because I'm a 5ft 3in short-waisted, long-legged woman with my center of gravity directly over the peddles. The price-point never fell into my budget. Recently, a friend gave me her Takara 18-speed touring bike that she has ridden only two or three times. Whoopee!! I can take it to the beach and buy that Bianchi I have always dreamed of riding to keep in Davis !!!!
