Newbee from Vermont

Hello all. Great site. I've decided in middle age to give up running and start biking for my aerobic exercise. Had a Marin hybrid but just got a Trek Pilot 5.0 which I modded with some Ultegra shifters. Love the bike and the way it accelerates compared to the heavy marin, what a difference. Have been out twice, first time hit by a car at an intersection, just minor scratch to me, didn't fall off. Hey, it's dangerous out there! :-) Anyway look forward to interacting with you all.

Hi!
and welcome. What I did was to go down to my library and get Effective Cycling. ( https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846 )
They can get it with an interlibrary loan if it's not in the stacks. Between what I had forgotten, and the new style of acting more like a vehicle, it helped a lot. Got a helmet yet?

Welcome, VC. I got into biking when my wife decided that she need to cross train instead of running. We both regret that we didn't discover this sport earlier (we are in our early 50's). Last September we did a 3-4 day trip around Brandon (Ticonderoga area was excellent). I was impressed that the Vt drivers were very respectful, and at least the routes that we did were hilly at times but no mountainous.

Hey Lem, if you like snow skiing. They have some great skiing right up the hill there in Killington. If I ever hit the lottery, I might join you guys up there.

Welcome to the forums V Cruiser.

Ha ha Dan, I have a story about skiing that would be too long to tell here
but in a nutshell..1969, Hidden Valley, leg broken in 6 places.....nevermind
but they do MTB there (Killington)in the summer, I will be taking full advantage of that

Thanks for the note. Hey, Flacid member? That can't mean what I think it does, does it?

:-)
