Hello from Big D!!!
Hell all! I am Richard. I am a new member, but I think I have been using this site since I bought my first real bike (Windsor The Hour Track Bike) for all manner of inquiries. I am excited to be back in my hometown of Dallas/Fort Worth after living in Austin for four years! I know what you're thinking, "...as a cyclist how can you be excited to be in Dallas instead of Austin?!" While I know that cycling infrastructure is not what it is in the capital city, I am excited to have an impact on the current cycling scene and the way we as cyclists get around this place!
My real reason for getting on the Forum is to start a discussion about bicycle messenger services in my hometown. At the moment, it would seem, the landscape is quite barren. My goal is to either try and find at least one place that will hire me on so that I can get my foot in the door and get some real experience in this industry. If this is not a possibility I am thinking about starting my own courier service in the area. It may seem daunting, but as an ambassador for cycling I feel it is my duty to do whatever it takes to support a culture devoted to alternative transport in a city that desperately needs it. I know that I have a long, difficult road ahead of me starting a business from the ground up in an industry I know little about, but as cyclists long, difficult roads are kind of our thing.
Thanks to the admins for welcoming me and I hope that my contributions here can be useful to anyone needing advice or help. PM me if you need anything.
