New to e-Bikes
My name is Richard. I live in the Caribbean. I am new to e-bikes, but managed to put together a cheap Mongoose bike with a front wheel 1000 Watts gearless hub motor and a cheap 1000 Watts controller. No name or make shown on controller, so yes, that cheap :-). At least the motor says "Aotema".
I built the battery my self (Lithium-Ion 18650's, 12s7p, 48v/15A) with its own BMS integrated and a single fuse to each cell. That is 84 fuses total in the pack. I used picofuses. So far, I haven't measured time or distance, but at least, the only 2 times I have used it, it has been a lot of steep climbs, pedaling some times and running motor only sometimes (up to 25 MPH) and after 3 hours of fun, battery charge is down to 50% only.
Each cell used to have a 10 Amps fuse, but the first time I used, I blew a complete row of 7 fuses. It was climbing a steep hill, but since it is a 1000 Watts/ 48v motor (1200 Watts max.) and the bike weight around 80 pounds, I weight 210 pounds... well... I just switched to 15 Amps fuses (yes, replaced all 84 fuses of my battery pack) and so far, so good.
I love all about it and I'm here to learn more :-)
