Hi from Chicago!

Hi - I've been lurking for a few weeks, and this seems like a great forum. I live just north of Chicago, in Evanston.

I bought a hybrid about a month ago - a Giant Cypress. Today, I bought some better pedals and toe-clips! What a difference! I hated the stock pedals on the Cypress; I always felt like my shoes would slip off. The clips and better pedals are so much more secure. I don't plan on ever strapping them tight, but, even loose, I think they made a huge difference in pedaling power. By the way, if anyone is looking for a good LBS in Evanston, check out The Pony Shop - www.ponyshop.com. I bought my bike and some accessories (including the wonderful toe-clips) from them - they're very friendly and helpful.

Also, I bought a Trek Incite 11i computer with cadence on ebay. I checked out many different types of computers, and this was one of my favorites. The screen is big, and little space is wasted with the logo. Anyway, if anyone is interested in more information on this computer, let me know.

Hi to both of you from another Chicago suburbanite. I, however, am from Roselle. Yep, probably never heard of it. We're a poor neighbor of Schaumurg which everyone's heard of.

I don't think Roselle is poor at all. I live in Schaumburg, so I feel I can comment.

Welcome Kim, I just recently bought a bike and went to clipless pedals almost immediately. I noticed a big gain in power when I went that route. Enjoy your bike.

That's where I got my tire and lock for my 79' Schwinn Varsity. Wish I could afford that nice $4,300 blue bike that I saw in the corner a few weeks ago..

Elisdad: My comment about Roselle was tonque-in-cheek. Sometimes Roselle feels like the poor neighbor because it seems like Schaumburg and Bloomingdale are always ahead of Roselle when it comes to infrastructure, cable changes, etc.

Hi everybody!

The shop in across from the hobby shop in downtown Evanston is Turin Bicycles. We checked out that store, but they didn't have much that we were interested in. They seem to carry more high-end bikes, while we were looking for low-end hybrids.

I don't plan on signing up for Bike the Drive - I'd rather sleep in! But, it sounds like a fun time.

<-- is a Chicago ex-pat (Edison Park, Ukranian Village, and Rogers Park), now 'living' in Arlington Heights. I am currently enrolled in a Masters Program and the burbs is where it is located.
I ride street track, but recently added a Bridgestone RB-2 to my ever expanding stable of track bikes. Time for some serious miles this summer!
welcome aboard!
