Well . . . North Vancouver actually . . .

Came across this site a couple of days ago and it could not have come at a better time.

I'm in the process of getting back into riding after almost 10 years away from it. I rode fairly competitively for about 5-6 years in my University years, but marriage, children and starting a business have kept me pretty busy since. A couple of months ago, by chance I came upon a road race in progress and sat there watching the riders streak by, doing what I used to do, and only then remembering how much I loved doing it . . . when I was. I sat there stunned as I realized that I had, without realizing it, given up something that I truly enjoyed.

Fast forward to today. A month of contemplation and a month of research brings me to today where I excitedly find myself in the market for a bike and all the gear. Loving the amount of information that I've found here at this site in just a couple of days. I now have a pretty good idea about my shoe, helmet and clothing selections. Bikes is a bit of another story, but I have narrowed it down a fair bit.

I play poker on-line in my spare time (hence the name) and am looking forward to dipping into the bankroll to splurge on gear that I could not have afforded in my younger days.

Anyway, that's my story.

I'll do my best to add to these forums

Hey, welcome!

I'm strictly a backandforth, work, shop and church kind of rider, but I love my bikes anyway! Nice to see someone coming back to cycling.

North Van, eh? Get something with lots of gears! I live at the top of Old Yale out here in Surrey - okay, Whalley - and believe me, I know all about gears!
Did you ride in North Van before or have you moved since? Anyway, after ten years, you're going to feel it. Don't get discouraged! Stick with it this time. Judging by some of the posters here, riding can and should be a life-long thing. I hope you enjoy it as much as you remembered. Good luck!

Welcome, Pokerguy!

If you have already been cruising this forum, you know it is a great source of advice, experience, opinion, and vitriol. It has buckets of entertainment, as well.

Welcome back to the fold. Keep us posted about your bike purchase.

We should really get a bunch of Lower mainland riders together and go hit the trails/roads.

Welcome Pokerguy, I live in BC too. Your lucky to be biking in Vancouver, I would love to get to the North Shore trails, they look like a blast.
