Greetings from Jax, FL

Hi, I'm Rod and I'm just now getting into road cycling at 37 years old. I'm looking to buy my first road bike. I own a 2007 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo that I used for bike trails years ago when I lived in Atlanta, GA, but it sadly hasn't seen real use in 5+ years.

Anyhow, I joined my company's bike team for bikeMS and random group rides through the year, and I found out quickly that my mountain bike just wouldn't cut it. I'm looking at either a new 2017 Specialized Roubaix SL4 Sport with 105 components for about $1,750, or a used 2012 Roubaix SL3 Pro with Ultegra Di2 in excellent shape for $1,000.

I can't wait to do my first long trips with a road bike!

Thanks,

Rod

Welcome to Bike Forums from west central Florida. We have quite a few FL folks and a good number of Jax area folks on here. Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals.
Let us know which bike you get.

Hi Rod. Welcome to Bike Forums. There are some good posts, here, about buying your first road bike.

Thanks guys. I'm still looking and I'm open to any bike options, though I got a chance to rent an 2017 Allez Elite from an LBS and rode almost 60 miles the last couple days. It felt great to easily cruise around at 16-18mph. I can't wait to get out more with a bike of my own!

I'm still searching around for my first road bike, but I've got a dilemma. I'm almost set on a 2017 Roubaix SL4 Sport, but it's not available at my LBS or anywhere within 120 miles. I'll likely drive to Orlando soon, as there is a bike shop there that has it in stock. Unfortunately, it won't come with the full fitting my local shop would provide.

My other option is to go with a 2018 Roubaix Sport, but it's outfitted with disc brakes and Future Shock. The FS would be cool, but I don't really need just brakes for the riding that I'll be doing in FL. Also, this bike is a little bit out of my budget range.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rod

Welcome. I work in Jax but live in Middleburg. Sorry, I can't help you with the bike decision because I'm mainly into old trikes. There are quite a few shops and plenty of cyclists in the area so I would think feedback would be fairly easy to find. Good luck.
