Hello from Upstate SC!

Can you be a new rider twice in one lifetime? :)

Originally from the Boston area, I started riding on an old 3 speed as prescribed therapy after major knee surgery (with crutches strapped to the bike!)

Once healed up, I continued to ride, and upgraded my ride to a Fuji 12 speed. I used that bike to commute 8 miles each way to work as an auto tech, during the Oil Crisis of 1973. (You young'uns will have to Google that!)

It was on my third MS 150 charity ride that someone towing a long sailboat failed to leave enough room for the trailer on a tight right turn that I happened to be taking. The boat forced me off the road, and the trailer ran over my bike. Yes, he kept right on going. :( Back on crutches again for a month or so, and I never did get another bike.

Fast forward 40 years. After a heart attack at 42, I got back into shape through walking. Now 65, retired, and moved with my wife and four rescue dogs to this beautiful, bike friendly area, I'm a beginner all over again.

Currently riding a KHS Vitamin A (a gift from my wife) but getting to the point where I'd like a road bike again. In fact, I'm looking at a lightly used 2014 Trek in a few days.

Boy, you are one resilient toughie! Good to hear that you are starting all over again for the 4th time but doesn't the saying go: "you never forget how to ride a bike"? Glad that the obstacles are not killing your spirit!! Looks like nothing is going to hold you back, not challenges, not age. Great story! Good for you!!

RIDE FORTH, YOUNG MAN!! RIDE FORTH!

Welcome! As for being a new rider, I am one every spring. Weak and gasping. :)
