The last time I rode a bike was 9 years ago in college. So it's been a while. But my wife and I decided to buy bikes for the exercise and fun factor, so today we took the plunge.
I bought a 2004 model Raleigh M80 mountain bike. Slightly used by the daughter of the shop owner, she maybe put 50 road miles on it before she decided a hybrid was better suited to her.
The bike is in fabulous condition (no paint scratches/nicks/chips, bearings re-packed, drivetrain completely cleaned and calibrated, rims trued up). It would look brand new if it had the factory tags on it. It also has the following upgrades:
- Sunrims DS2-XC 6061 Series Alloy Rims, hand-laced with black spokes to Shimano hubs (HB-M475 Front, FH-M475 Rear)
- Tioga Factory XC Slick tires
- Salsa stem (not sure which one)
- FSA 7075 T6 XC 190 Alloy Handlebar
- Unknown brand shock seatpost
- Serfas RX-921 Seat
- Wellgo Lu950 Aluminum Pedals
The front rim is also wired and calibrated for a clip-on trip computer, so all I have to do is buy one. Out the door after 8.25% sales tax was $500. I have no clue if this is good or not. But it looks sweet and rides very nice so far. Can't wait to take it off road.
Anyway, I don't know how hard-core I will get on trail riding, but if my screen name is any kind of foreshadowing, I will need to make sure my life insurance is paid up!
I'm glad I found this place.
