Hey from ROK

So I picked up this bike to kill time during a particularly unpleasant tour and now I'm hooked. I ride alone mostly as the group here has disbanded some time ago. Most times I get lost and wonder how nice it would be to have a group of mechanics following me around Korea. I don't ride to stay fit or to train for races; I ride because I like it. Stay well, take care. Seven

Yes, it is South Korea.

Welcome abourd Seven. Ex-Pat? ROK National?
I spent a year over there as a teacher - loved it and still miss it today. Ever check out the Korean Keirin races at the Olympic Velo in Seoul?

Where you stationed Seven? I spent 3 tours over there... '77 - Taegu, '83 - Suwon, '99 - Kunsan. My last tour I managed to log over 3,000 miles wondering around Kunsan City and the surrounding countryside. At the time we sported up to 13 road riders. With so many riders out at one time, we tended to surprise the nationals. But over time they got used to us. There is some mighty fine road riding over there, I had several friends who mountain biked as well, they all said the off road riding was pretty good too.

The first picture attached is of me and a fellow rider (both of us are now retired will be riding together again this year at RAGBRAI) 20 miles east of Kunsan City on top of a huge hill with a pagoda on top...it was an intensely steep climb. The 2nd picture is about 30 miles north east of Kunsan AB, this was a regular rest stop for us during our every Sunday metric century...it had a lot of good climbs.

Enjoy and welcome to the forums!
Gus

Thanks but it isn't mine...I'm the ugley guy on the right

My description of that picture has been found wanting. My apologies.

Here's one of me out in the countryside with lots of lush lilly pads and rice fields. There really is some beautiful areas to ride through.

right on - I was out of the military before I went to Korea. I actually spent my free time there drinking, and when sober, climbing in Pukhansan Park (outside of Seoul)
