Hi from Ontario

Hi All

I’m retired and live in a small town in south-eastern Ontario, Canada.

I’m about to buy a hybrid after not riding for several years. Need to lose some weight and I have tried everything except cycling – so maybe it will help? Not sure if it’ll become a passion so I am going to get an entry level – KHS Brantford or a Norco Olympia. There is a good LBS nearby and they seem to do a great job of assembly, fitting and maintenance.

I understand there are some great cycling roads around here (Prince Edward County). If I really like it I’ll look for a club or some group cycling.

I’ve learned a lot already just lurking on this forum.

Regards,

Bruceter

Hey Bruceter,

Might want to visit Ideal Bikes in Picton. They were in Toronto but recently moved there. The owner, Ed, can give you some suggestions as to where to ride and such.

And welcome to the forum.

Hi Bruceter, I think you'll find cycling to be a very good recreation, and it'll probably help with your weight if you combine it with some attention to diet. Even if your weight doesn't change much you'll have converted some fat to muscle, so you'll still be heathier.

I would make sure the bike you get has eyelets for racks and/or fenders, in case you develope a passion and want to be out in any weather, or if you decide to integrate exercise into your daily life and use the bike for errands like shopping trips. Luggng bags of milk in a pannier is a lot more comfortable than using a backpack!

Hope you'll go with the Canadian choice (Norco)!
