    Newbie wanting to learn!!!!

    hello,
I am currently living in North Carolina and in July 1994 I purchased a Cannondale R800 and have been riding for a year now. I used to run in marathons but 2 knee surgeries put my running days behind me. So I bought the bike to replace the long distance. I have no experience in riding except that when I'm on it I only know one speed, FAST!!! I love the burn in the legs and soreness in my lungs when I'm done. On the down side, I am 6'6" 240lbs which I hear is huge for cycling. I ususally ride 30 miles a day around 20mph is that good??? I'm glad to be riding and hope to receive mountains of information on how to improve my cycling and techniques. Thank you

Pro racers are usually wispy some may be 6' 2" (George Hincape?) or so but light. But if your just riding or even raceing for fun who cares. I think 20 mph is fast.

A brand new Trek cyclocross and a very old Schwinn road bike with a long interesting history. Ask me if you want to hear the whole story.

    Hi Newbie,

I've been cycling for years and on a good day average 15 miles per hour, so 20 is great !! I did a century last fall ( 100 miles in a day ) and averaged 13.5 . Remember the most important thing is to enjoy !!
