hi from leeds, england.

hey, my name's trinity. i'm 20, which may seem a little too old to start learning how to ride bmx, but i love riding bikes, so i'm giving it a shot. i moved to england from the u.s. a few weeks ago and there's a free skate park right by my new house. i got my first bmx today, after having to leave my old cruiser behind in texas. i've been going to the skatepark since i got here, watching the bmx-ers fly over the ramps. i want to do that one day. i practiced tonight for a few hours, but i'm not ready to show up to the skatepark in the daytime yet... the skaters and bikers are a little intimidating.

i don't know much about the technicality of riding bmx, but i do love bikes and i'm ready to dedicate myself to learning as much as i can. i had a great time at the park tonight... i practiced lifting the front of my bike, i rode over and up ramps, and i took a huge fall that cut up my elbow. i'm sore, but it feels good.

so that's my about me about bikes.

This forum is a great community and you will get lots of advice, but you also seem to have a good BMX community at your local skate park. Dont be intimidated, but ask them how they do their tricks and I'm sure they will enjoy sharing their expertise. What else are you doing in Leeds apart from BMXing?

i am taking my third year of university here and otherwise exploring the country. my roommates have taken me to the moors, the countryside, and the festivals. my job's taking me to the sea tomorrow. i really like this place, i just miss home a lot.

once i moved here and i was actually in england, surrounded by accents and people driving on the other side of the road, i realized that i had done something huge. so suddenly, i felt like it was possible for me to go ahead and act on all those other goals i had- bmx being one of them.

i'll talk to the other riders and ask their help...after i learn how to bunny hop on my own.

thanks for the advice. trinity

I have only passed through Leeds once, about 40 years ago, but my nephew did his PHD in mathematics there, and my niece did her masters in computer programming. I would like to learn the sideways bunny hop so I could get onto the sidewalk when I get squeezed by a cell-phoning motorist.

Welcome to BF.

I visited England last year on vacation and managed to get together with a buddy of mine I have known online for a few years from Leeds. I even stayed with him and his family for 3 days as he took me all around.

If you haven't been yet, head up to Whitby and see the Whitby Abbey.....really neat (and eeerie). Here is my "picture" page which includes photos I took at Whitby Abbey, not to mention York (which is also close to you) and Stonehenge.

edit: Actually, if you go through the Whitby Abbey pics, you will see one of a guy laying down in a coffin shaped hole. That is my buddy (Keith) that lives there that I stayed with.
