Can't Wait till My Bike Gets Here

Helloooooo!!

Just moved to the DC area -- well, Woodbridge for the time being, but my ultimate goal is Alexandria cause it's so damn purdy.

Relocated from Augusta, GA where I used to run x-country about five miles almost every morning, plus taught power yoga every weekday. I've been in transit with this move for over two weeks and I am chomping at the bit for some physical activity. I'm a real moron when it comes to directions, so it's taking me awhile to figure out where the heck I am -- still feel quite lost and am easily frustrated behind the wheel.

I work from home so I don't have to worry about rush-hour traffic, thank god, but still... since I can no longer step out my house and run thru the woods, I figure my daily trail running days are over (there's no way I'm driving to run every morning). That leaves me with biking, I figure, and that's cool cause I do love to bike, as well. Just that, where I lived before, running was more convenient.

There are bike trails ALL OVER the place here... nothing right out my front door, but I'm thinking I can probably find some not-so-car-covered roads to navigate to where good paths are. Need to figure this out, though... Would also like to figure out how to get myself to the Metro via bike... and the best way to lock up and such...

I'm not terribly fussy about my ride, it's a comfort mountain bike I bought a few years ago for $400 -- POS, I'm told, but it's been fairly good to me (I ride it on roads, mostly, cause I'm a chicken when it comes to going fast). I know pretty much nothing about maintenance & repair, as I'd bring my bike into the shop I brought it from regularly and let them handle the upkeep for free. I beat the crap outta the bike I grew up with, by the way, and rode it to work every day for years -- never gave it a moment's maintenance and it never let me down so I'm hoping this comfort bike'll work out similarly...

Just wanna use the bike for practical reasons and burn off some energy and learn about the area and get by as much as possible without a car....

If you're in the area or just wanna say hey... I'd be happy to hear from you!
