Site newbie from Richmond, Va

Hi all,

I've been a bike commuter here in RVA for a few years now, traveling 3-6 days a week from the Southside to my office on the Northside (around 18 miles round trip). I've often read the posts here, but never participated, and lately I've figured that what with me having a psuedo-cushy computer job, maybe I should start. In any event, to geek up the Minutemen, bike commuting has changed my life, so you'll probably catch me in that forum more than any other.

Thanks!
John

The fun one of course--- Nickel Bridge. Hills on both sides to make you work a little on the way and alot coming back. The protected ped path on it is pretty nice too, seeing as how the traffic can get a little dicey on the Lee bridge.

Hello and welcome! (I'm new too)

My girlfriend is from Virginia Beach. I love that whole area there. How's the bike community there in Richmond?

I'm here in the RIC as well. Been toying with bike commuting for a few weeks now, and would have to cross the James everyday too (though I live northside and work southside) ... anyhoo, there are a few BikeForum folks around the area, including va_cyclist, blackberry and a couple others. Welcome!

Thanks all! Well dymogeek, there are alot of cyclists here from most disciplines. The James River Park Systems provide alot excellent trails if thats your thing, as well as the annual Nissan Xterra comp for triathletes, etc. There are many local clubs also, who set up crits, tt's, and training on SS's and fixies... Braden from Rowletts (an lbs here) is a good person to talk to about that. Overall its pretty great here as far I'm concerned... other bikers seem friendly enough, and even after a few years here, I don't have any real horror stories about psychotic drivers. My only complaint would be the lack of cycling lanes, but in the big scheme of things thats pretty minor.
