Hey From Tampa Bay
I've been lurking on this site for about a week and thought it was about time to go ahead and register. I used to be really into mountain biking but I havent really seriously rode in about 5 years (I had sold my bike). Well I just got a new (to me) Nishiki Alien and I'm stoked to be back in the saddle again! I just can't believe how out of shape I am!!!

Welcome to BF!
We TampaBay members seem to keep getting bigger and bigger ( in numbers, not size ).
I live in Clearwater (used to live over around South Brandon). There are quite a few others too.

I'd probably commute too if it wasn't that my only real option is US 19 to work.

Hey NitroRoo,
I live in Riverside Heights. We're practically neighbors. I don't think I've ever ridden from our area to Brandon. I'd stay off some of the busy roads. The drivers can be pretty wacky especially when they have the sun in their eyes. On the good side you will be heading against traffic.

- welcome! dunno about Tampa, but out here on the peninsula there are lots of great trails and rides!
- saw about 100+ riders on Gulf Blvd. through Treasure Island last weekend (felt sorry for the stragglers, but it looked like everyone buddied up)..
- be careful commuting!

Cool to see some on here from the area! Yeah there are quite a few good trails in this area but none I can incorporate into my commute, unfortunately. First ride is tomorrow (driving in then riding home). Definitely avoiding 60, 301, MLK... I'm pretty much going to take backroads the whole way.

Well I'm still alive! I stick to the sidewalk where I can, then I make it through some nice quiet neighborhood streets... the only risky part is my last little leg on 301.. but I have a decent shoulder to work with and this morning I was moving faster than the cars stuck in traffic.. good feeling!

301? Ouch........I wouldn't want to be on that road during rush hour. It's not as bad as something like US 19, but its still pretty darn busy.
I agree with the previous posters......I ride on sidewalk in both Hillsborough and Pinellas....without a group, it's just too dangerous around here.
