Hi,
I'm moving to the San Fran area soon. I'm also looking for a bike- preferably used as well. I've heard of this event called Veloswap on Oct. 29th. It's supposed to be huge with new and used stuff to buy. I know that's not direct advice on actually what to look for in a used bike- but I'm new to the cycling scene.

I will recomend you to look at the bicycle section at Craigslist they have about 500/700 posting per day and I'm sure some of the bikes there will fit you, the best deals come up by the end of the month do to the rent and/or bills I guess.

so do you know what kind of Bike and size you need...?
I use to fit bikes for people at fancy shops and I also live in berkeley, maybe I can give you a hand In person if you need to figure out what you need, or you can post your basic measurements and bike criteria for everybody to give you a hand...

anyway welcome to the city and to the site.

Yes, I use craigslist. However, It's hard to find a decent used road bike that isn't vintage for less than, say, $500. $400 is about as high as I can go.

I actually ended up getting a new Bianchi Boardwalk, a road-oriented hybrid bike.
