Hugs and kisses from Toronto, Canada
Hello everybody!
As the title says I'm from Toronto, mid-to-late 20's male who is relatively new to cycling. I haven't lurked that much but it's nice to see so many happy people.
As means of an introduction, I'd like to parlay my baptism into our fine sport of many uses:
March 2002. My office was no longer a quick 20 minute bus & subway jaunt, through downtown and what not. The company had changed offices 17 km from my house. More importantly, a 1 hour 15 minutes public transit commute. It sucked.
So you know what happened... I scored a ride each morning with a lovely, beautiful and funny lady in her BMW . I was cock of the walk (and 20 lb's overweight).
But it happened...
April 2002. BMW lady got fired! I was 23 lb's overweight! I was faced with taking the transit and transit was due for a strike that week!
I had a plan, though. I could bike.
My co-workers though I was nuts. "Bike in traffic? You'll get killed!" "Why don't you get a car?". My girlfriend was happy, though. "You need exercise, honey!" I knew this. And my plan was in effect.
My work is 4 floors above a Bally's, which I was a member (for weights). I would bathe there and keep my bike in my office (my bosses were impressed). I started out at 50 minutes going and 65 coming home. Now, I doing 38 minutes going and 45 minutes home. And I look fetching.
There's my story. Cheers!
