Hi out there

Hi everyone,
I discovered this site, while looking over my husband's shoulder while he was on his computer the other day. It looked interesting, so here I am.
I am almost (in two weeks, omigod) 50, and we are avid cyclists. Just started about 2.5 years ago when arthritis in my right foot caused me to stop speed walking and doing Marathons.
So I started cycling, and dragged my husband into it, and now he's obsessed!
We ride road bikes, do all of the organized rides we can find in the surrounding area and then just ride around, probably about 100-150 mi per week during the summer.
I am trying to lose about 40 lbs. over the winter for a variety of reasons, particularly to ride faster!
So I'm looking forward to reading about other cyclists.
Thanks, Bikerchick

Welcome Bikerchick! Nice to have a local here. I'm sure we've done some of the same rides together as I do the local organized rides too. (Lilac Century, Loreen Miller, Autumn Century, 49 Degrees North...to name a few). Do you ride with any clubs?
Ride on,
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,
Nice to hear from somone in Spokane. We belong to the spokane bike club, but don't really participate. Always seems to be too much to do. We do all of the rides you mentioned. We also did some other neat rides outside of the area. Have you done the STOKR in Libby MT, or the Courage Classic out of Seattle? We did a ride in Moscow ID this summer, and want to do the TORSOV in Missoula next year. We will also go back and do the STP (Seattle to Portland) next summer.
I'd love to find a ride somewhere warmer in Jan/Feb to keep training for, even if it's on a trainer.
What kind of riding do you do?

Everybody needs to tell BikerChick that that the key to a bicyclists success is to let her Chief Mechanic put all the goodies on her bike that he thinks she needs. Like a color matched wheelset to compliment the bartape, titanium axles, you know, little things like that. That kind of stuff surely will maker her go faster and farther. Maybe even a new titanium bike! Yeah, that's it, a new Ti bike. That'll work.

Hi Bikerchick and welcome to BikeForums.

I don't mean to pry but is your husband a BF member?

I am trying to lose about 40 lbs. over the winter for a variety of reasons, particularly to ride faster!
IMHO the best way to lose weight is to just get out there and ride.
Might be hard to do in your neck of the woods if you're like me and don't like riding in the cold or snow.
But a trainer will work too.
Good luck!

Hi again,

I mostly ride by myself whenever I can. I joined the Spokane Bicycle Club 2 years ago and have never rode with them once. I just can't seem to make the rides they offer. I too have done the STP. I was in Wenatchee in June and did their Apple ride. It's a century following the Entiat River. I HIGHLY recommend that one. It was beautiful. I also am a Spin Instructor at North Park so when the snow flies I can be found there. Otherwise I'm usually North of Spokane riding the country roads. Where do you and your husband ride?
Yvonne

Yvonne: My wife (Bikerchick) and I live just north of Wandermere Golf course and ride probably in the same areas you do; Dartford, Hazard, Austin, Hatch, Little Spokane, etc. We always seem to wind up our rides coming up the Mill hill and having our Starbucks before riding the last 1.5 miles home. We joined North Park last year, but didn't make much use of it. Quit when the weather turned good. I think that we will re-join this year. So, you're a spin instructor? We'll come if you promise to hurt us! <g>
We did the Apple Century this year too. Very nice ride. I'll bet that we have met you.

Hi Davet, What a small world! I'll bet we have met. If you come to NP again stop by and say hi.
It appears we do ride some of the same routes. I'm up by Bear Lake and ride the portion of the Loreen Miller from my house around Elk. It gives me a nice 24 mile loop. I have brought my bike to a friend's house, by Hawthorne Manor, and have riden the Monroe road to Deer Park and back. That's a great ride too. Mill
hill is such a mental giant for the end of a ride! As for Starbucks, I frequent the very same one. I know I have to have met you two before.
