I've been here on the forums a couple of weeks now. ...guess it's time to introduce myself.
I'm not really a biker: I'm an Ironman triathlete who has to do a lot of biking - because that is part of the race.
I found these forums by searching for information on a new Brooks saddle.
I've been biking since I was 5. My favorite bike (before I started racing) was my 1971 Schwinn Supersport, which I bought from my boyfriend when I was in college. I loved that bike (even though it was way too big for me). That bike came with a Brooks B15 Champion Standard saddle. I continued riding that bike (because I could go faster and easier on that bike than on other bikes - like my Schwinn Varsity). I even began my Ironman training on that bike in 1994. People finally convinced my that I really needed a new bike if I was going to race, so I got my TREK 5200 OCLV. The Brooks saddle came with me to the new bike.
I got my TREK about 3 weeks before my first race (May, 1994 -1/2 Ironman), but my Speedplay pedals didn't arrive until the day before the race. I had never felt such calf pain as the pain I felt going into the run after riding with those pedals that I wasn't used to. I was thinking "How am I going to run 13.1 miles when my legs feel like this?" After a couple of miles, the pain went away...and I qualified for my first Hawaii Ironman.
I completed my first 6 Hawaii Ironman races on that TREK bike - upgraded to Dura Ace components.
After my 6th Ironman, I was hit by a car while training. I was crossing an intersection (with the green light). A car coming the opposite direction turned left and ran into me broadside. I broke my scapula in 3 places, messed up my shoulder and hip. ...and messed up my bike.
I got a new bike: a Calfee Tetra Tri. (The Brooks saddle came with me to the new bike) In the 1/2 Ironman qualifier that same year, I did the bike split 7 minutes faster on my new bike! I did the Ironman 3 more times on my Calfee.
Now I have 3 bikes. I still have my TREK (which my husband put back together for me - stealing parts from his bike). I have my Calfee. .....and, yes, I still have that old yellow Schwinn Supersport (which I can't even imagine riding now....how did I ever ride a bike that is soooooo big**********)

Aloha from Polperro!
I Just joined on Friday myself, good site!
Just wondering what average speeds on the flat you maintain during a triathlon stage?
What average speed overall would you look to acheive on a hilly stage.
I ride a variable 15% course over 20k and can record about 27kmh average.
Thanks.

For my 1/2 Ironman, my average overall speed (on a somewhat hilly, windy course) is about 19 mph. For the Hawaii Ironman Course, my average speed is about 17 - 18 mph. Hope you can translate into KPH.
