Hi from Cork
Hello everyone. After browsing bikeforums.net for the last 18 months I decided to join.
My name is Paddy, I am (slightly) over thirty years of age and I am a civil engineer working for a large multinational engineering consultancy in Cork, Ireland. I am 182cm and I weigh 88kg (5'11" and around 180 pounds). I cycle a Lemond Nevada City which I have had for 18 months now. At present I am cycling about 150km per week which I hope to double when the evenings get longer. I got very unfit when I gave up rowing during university, so cycling was the next best thing!
My cycling ambition is to climb L'Alpe d'Huez and relive childhood days in the 1980's of watching Roche, Fignon, Mottet, Theunisse, Kelly, Delgado, Lemond on TV. My best cycling achievement to date was finishing the Wicklow 200 last year in 9 hours, cycling through some of Irelands most beautiful mountain scenery. (https://www.wicklow200.ie/)
The best part of bikeforums for me is the advice available for mechanical aspects of bikes. I plan to do most of the maintenance on my bike myself. If you dont know how your bike operates, there won't be much hope of you fixing it when you are broken down 30 or 40km from home!
My brother, free_pizza, is also a member of these boards & I think he hangs out in the MTB section...
I'll talk to you all later

I share a birthday with your brother.
Which firm do you work for? I work in the Worley Parsons building in Brentford (I don't work for them however, but my company has subcontracted them to work on a project we operate.) We also have Fluor as a contractor as well.

Hey Paddy:
Alpe d"Huez is everything it's cracked up to be. An amazing experience which I hope to repeat.
Peace.
Eric

Welcome and slainte!
I did a giro d' Ireland a number of years ago. Started in Dublin. Went down to Wexford, over to Cork, then to the Western Coastal rings. Then it was over to Galway, up through Connamara, across the six counties and back to Dublin. What a great month!

Failte Paddy! I moved from France to Ireland the year Roche won the TdF and got a lot of slagging that year. . Lived ten years there. I miss Ireland! .
A word of advice, don't mention your brother anymore in your posts if you want any help here! (just kidding ).

Dia duit, Padraig! I can't imagine biking the Wicklow 200. I barely survive R600 from Corcaigh to Cheann tSaile. Let's have a few pints at The Dock!
