Howdy from (Rita Ravaged) Southeast Texas

I've been enjoying cross country motorcycle touring for the last six years. Up until the last three months my motorcycle has been the main source of transportation and daily commuter. I've seen bicyclist touring the same time I've been touring on my motorcycle. For some reason I can't explain, the thought of bicycle touring really does appeal to me. I started kicking around the idea of bicycle commuting when the price of gasoline went through the roof 6 or 7 months ago (mainly as a protest). I got a wild hair and followed through the other day. My 06 Raleigh Passage 5.0 should be here in a week or so. I live in the Golden Triangle area located in Southeast Texas. The cagers here aren't motorcycle friendly and far less friendly to bicyclist. I'm in my mid forties and all my motorcycle friends think that I've flipped my lid. Only time will tell if this bicycle thing is for me or not. Of course I'll never give up motorcycles, that's just a way of life......

Welcome to the forums Hacksaw. My wife is from Nederland. Her mom & younger brother still live there.
I couldn't agree more about the "Golden Triangle" being less than receptive to bicycles. I learned that there's going to be a pretty big ride this summer starting from Beaumont. Can't help but wonder what the route is going to be. Always thought I'd like to try to ride over the Gulfgate Bridge getting to Pleasure Island. Again. welcome & De Colores to you.
