Great forum here. Lots to view.
I'm 47 yrs old and I consider myself a casual rider. My riding goals are time on and distance. Spent plenty of time on, but am still working on the distance. I ride on the street and occasionally the American river parkway. Advantage is no cars on the parkway. Just other bikes and pedestrians. Street riding here can be a bit dicey, what with some bad roads and traffic, but we have bike lanes going everywhere these days. I ride a couple of different bikes, depending on my mood or the conditions. I have an older converted mtn bike ('90 Trek 830), setup for the street (bigger gearing upfront, street tires and tri-bars), an even older sport/road ('83 Trek 500) bike and a somewhat newer road bike ('04 OCR3) for the longer hauls. I use the heavier 830 for strength workouts, the 500 just because I like it and the OCR for when I just want to ride. Right now the weather sucks, so I'm using the 500 for my indoor trainer. I've upgraded my OCR to 105 group this winter and am looking forward to trying it out. I ride for my health and because I am infatuated with the bonding of man and machine.

Welcome. You didn't say what the 105 was an upgrade from. These days the 105 groups is pretty impressive.

I upgraded from a Sora group which came with the bike. It served me well, but I wanted to go double and am hoping for smoother shifting. The Trek (in the picture) is still running the original Exage system. It's never failed me. I thought about putting the Sora on the 83 sport road, but the classic lines would be ruined. It has an old suntour, friction shift 6spd that still works well (once I cleaned it up).
