Greetings and Salutations from SE Michigan
I've been a Bike Forum lurker for about a year. Always been a bike rider but became a cyclist about 11 years ago. I signed up for a MS150 and had to train, so I began to ride a bunch. I'm now an 11 year MS150 veteran.
Married with 4 kids, all aspiring cyclists. Those pesky responsibilities limit my riding to about 1,000 miles per year.
I own but don't ride
Gary Fisher Zebrano (wife)
Trek 820, Trek 7100, Trek 800, Schwinn Frontier (kids)
I have a brother who lives in SE Mi. (Brighton). I'm presently in Ky. and we were raised in a small town near Battle Creek. I'm 54, my brother is 49. Back in '91 (I think), he took a notion to train for and complete a bike event called the DALMAC. You may be familiar with it.
After becoming a successful engineer, getting a Detroit office, etc ... he also got a Detroit waistline (256 lbs), was on BP and cholesteral meds, etc. I've been a long distance runner since '94 and my brother began a casual jogging program in the fall of '04. He wasn't too serious but after coming to Knoxville TN in March of '05 to watch me run a marathon, he decided he had to run one.
I spent the spring/summer of '05 coaching him via phone and email and in October of '05 he completed the Detroit marathon. He was also at 214 pounds and off most of his meds.
Now, I'm a biker due to recovery from a back problem which seems to be taking a long time. I've been lurking and I see there's a difference between bikers and cyclists ..... just like we (runners) separate the joggers from the runners.
I'm a biker at this point but should life demand my abstinance from running, I just may turn into a cyclist. I'll be lurking and probably asking a lot of newbie questions.
Welcome! Whereabouts in SE Michigan are you located?
Welcome to the group from another SE Michigan guy!
Any chance you are a GM employee and ride with the GM Cycling Club?
GM is the devil! Don't ride with them!
