Just starting up again
Hi all,
I'm 61 years young, and refuse to grow up. I gave up riding regularly 14 years ago, when I moved from California to New York. In Ca, I used to ride 200 - 300 miles per week. For the last year, I commuted 90 miles each way by bicycle. (I'd ride to work on Sunday afternoon, stay in an apartment during the week, and then ride home again after work on Friday.) I now weigh 40 lbs more than I did then, and am fed up with carrying 40 lbs blubber around with me so I've started riding again. First week, I managed 30 miles, and got numerous minor mechanical problems sorted out. Can't wait to start the next week. -a. |
Welcome, aif! congrats on getting back on the bike. Sounds like an interesting commute. any reason you didn't live closer to work?

Just so you know, I envy you.
I've started fresh this summer :) |
Glad your back on the bike. Welcome to BF! Lots of commuters here and many in NY so you'll have some company.

Thanks for the welcomes

I'd also got rid of the car about 6 years before because I was only driving about 200 miles per year. Riding the bike for 90 miles was considerably faster than taking the train, and the trip between Topanga Canyon and Redondo Beach was very pleasant. -a. |
I see. makes sense. I can imagine you had a beautiful commute.
