Aloha from Kailua, Oahu, HI

I recently purchased an Air Friday folding bike and plan on doing some bike touring on the Mainland. I was an erstwhile competitive triathlete that had to give up running because of arthritis in my hips(age 65). Fortunately biking hasn't been a problem. I plan on doing a 120 mile bike race around Oahu in a few weeks and a leisurely (3 day ride) around The Big Island in Oct. I plan on doing a house swap in July next year for a month in Maine. I'm looking to do some bike touring first week of Jan. Any suggestion on the West Coast where the weather won't be too inclement.

Aloha, good to meet ya, bra. Used to live in Kailua myself for a few years, while stationed out at K-Bay. You'll like it here, especially the touring and 50+ forums based on what you wrote. Can't help you on a good west coast winter tour though...my suggestion would be Arizona - not exactly beachfront.

Welcome to the boards! Based on what you wrote, you might want to check out the Touring forum for some ideas on where to ride, routes and what to pack. Good luck and keep us updated on your travels and adventures!

E komo mai! Chipcom and jyossarian are right on target, the touring and 50+ forums are good places to hang out.

Will you be riding the Honolulu Century next month?
