Hello from Ithaca NY

Hi, I'm new to the list and the world of online cycling. Am a recreational rider and also enjoy touring, which is my focus at present. Crossed the US some 25 years ago, and this summer rode paris-Istanbul. Am presently planning a tour in Asia (Istanbul - Beijing), which will involve getting a proper touring bike -- the last few years have gotten away with my regular road bike, a Bianchi Veloce, and a seat post rack on decent roads and summer conditions (1.5 person tent and sperlight sleeping bag help).

Am now researching various heavy duty tourers, though would like to keep the weight down and enjoy riding rather than slogging about.

Theres an active cycling community here in Ithaca with a lot of racing and many weekly events.

Welcome David! Wow, you toured on a Veloce? I have one myself and touring w/ it never crossed my mind. Good to know it's do-able. Lots of good info in the Touring forum so be sure to share your pics and experiences from your tours.
