Hello from Tampa, Florida/question

Hello everyone! I haven't been on a bike in a very long time, but the need to get in shape and the need to keep up with my two 5yo daughters on their bikes got me into a local bike shop to get a Giant Suede bike. I really love it and have been very happy with my purchase. I think it is one of the most comfortable bicycles that I have ever ridden.

My question is this. I ride alot with my sister and a friend with her kid. right now we have to take several vehicles with bike racks. But I would like to pile everyone in my minivan and pull some type of trailer with all the bikes in it. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have a hitch on my van, just never had to use it. Thanks.

Rita

Welcome Rita to Bikeforums.

We have a Women Cycling Forum too, if your interested in that PM me and I'll get you in.

As for your question I'm not sure about Trailers for the back of a mini-van. Have you looked at Bikeracks for the tailgate? A couple of my girlfriends have them and they can carry 3-4 bikes on the back..

Anyhoo, welcome again.
Snowy

Welcome to the forums!

I reccomend looking at a large tailgate style rack as mentioned by Snowy....however if you have more than bikes than can be fitted onto a tailgate rack, you can get a wodden platform flatbed trailer, and modify it to be used as a bike trailer. The key thing here is a method to secure both wheels, and keep it upright. Using wood blocks, eyelets, a few security cables, some padlocks, and having a partial wall in the midpoint of the bikes for stability....it can be done. I would say total mods (if you were to do all the handiwork yourself, or get one of the family to assist) would be around $50-60 plus cost of trailer if you went this way.
