Hello from the land of mild and honey

Don't have a clue what that phrase means but I've heard it all my life, in reference to this small patch of southern middle Tennessee I call home. Mr. Mars, of candy bar fame, used to live here; maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, it's really beautiful country, rolling hills, woods, lakes, and a great place to ride.
Little over a year ago I bought my first bike, since I was 15, so I guess that means I'd been away from riding for about 41 years. I had been thinking about riding for a while because some friends were involved in the sport. One day I was in a bike shop in Nashville to check out the equipment first hand and a sales person suggested I take a test ride. That was on a Giant FCR. Man, what a rush, couldn't get the grin off my face. Bought bikes for the wife and myself the following week.
I'm and engineer and I guess the effeciency and simplicity of the machine is what gets my motor running. That, and of course the pure fun of being out riding the countryside. This year I plan to start commuting to work at least 1 or 2 days a week. This will be a 10 mile trip each way. I'm building a Giant Cypress bike for this purpose; added lights, seatpost rack, handle bar bag, fenders, etc.

Hello Crank57,

I don't know if you've wandered over to the Commuting forum yet, but they are always happy to have another commuter added to the ranks.

You certainly do live in beautiful country for cycling--Mr. East Hill's (Sammilove) great great grandparents were from Franklin, and I know we enjoyed the two trips we've made to visit that part of Tennessee.

Welcome to BF!

East Hill

With Frank C. Mars, and the rest of the Mars family--the origin of the phrase is a closely guarded secret...

If it's Milk and Honey it comes from the bible or something doesn't it and refers to ancient Mesopotamia.

Yes, but the Mars family will never admit to it.

Yes, the Mars family are indeed the owners of the Mars candy company. And when I say it's a closely guarded secret, I mean it's a closely guarded secret:
