Non-Newbie Introductions

I was thinking, new people are joining the forum every day. They introduce themselves, and we get to know a little more about them. But they don't get to know anything about the members who have been around for a while. So maybe it would be a good idea to re-introduce ourselves on one thread, and tell a little more about ourselves. I know I would like to know more about some of the people here whom I know only by their posts...

I am a curtain wall designer for high rise buildings around the world (Curtain walls are the exterior glass walls). I moved to Portland about 1 1/2 years ago from Corvallis, Oregon, where I went to school. I love it here!! I live with my girlfriend and our two dogs. (Australian shepherd X Australian cattle dog, and a Corgy X Shepherd)

I have been vegan (don't consume animal products) for 6 years. I made the decision for ethical reasons, but now am enjoying all the health benefits that come along with it...

I've always been an aggro cross-country mountain biker, but I started commuting earlier this year, and am now riding my bike almost anywhere I go instead of my car.

I've become addicted to Bikeforums, and have recently begun using proper capitalization in my posts!!

Funny post.

I have a heck of a time with these Forums myself, and can totally see how they could be adictive.

What kills me is not the capitalization problems but the lack of a spell checker. Man I type poorly, and spell even worse.

Excuse my ignorance but is your profession a subspecialty of architecture or mechanical engineering of sorts? Sounds like a great job! Where in the world have you travelled? Ever been in my neck of the woods...the Far East: Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam.

Quick synopsis of my life: Like everything else in this country I was made in Taiwan. I have a twin sister. Grew up in various Far Eastern countries while my father was in Vietnam and IndoChina for 15 years. English is my sixth language. Chinese, Malaysian, Hindi one of my firsts. Did not begin mountain biking until 28. Past life as a inorganic chemist, runway model then a New York city paramedic now a physician in my own small practice and an associate professor of medicine at one of the state's medical school. Met my husband mountain biking. Have a 19 mos daughter together. He is also a very active bike forum member. (Will let you guess whom he might be.) Happy as a lark despite being sleep deprived most of my existance. Not a vegetarian. There, that's it.

Also addicted to the bike forum with my 5.17 posts a day.

You might like to add your details to this thread.

There are already quite a lot of details about members there and it makes good reading.

Yes, it is infact a mixture of architecture and mechanical engineering... buildings are typically roughly designed by an architect, and then each trade involved must design and engineer their own product to make it all fit together and meet structural requirements. My part in all of this is to help figure out how the window walls can be put together, and produce drawings for assembly. I am really lucky in that I do love my job.
Oh, and I haven't had the opportunity to travel yet... Right now we do have a job in Singapore, but I'm glad to just be here now because of the SARS problems over there.

Oh, and I should also mention I am a lifelong soccer player, too.
